Julien Lasalle: Interview with the Deputy Director of Studies and Payment Supervision at the Banque de France

Marc de Beaucorps, CEO of Finovox, had the pleasure of talking with Julien Lasalle, Deputy Director of Studies and Payment Supervision at the Banque de France. Role of the Bank of France in financial transactions and system security, decryption of new fraud techniques: phishing, payment fraud, smishing, and identity theft, practices to prevent and detect fraud in your organizations or even captivating anecdotes, discover an excerpt from this new episode of Fraud Hunters.

Marc de Beaucorps:

The telephone becomes a part of a person's digital identity, so it is important to secure, at the entrance, that it is the right person, the right passport and the right home.

Julian Lasalle:

In most cases of fraud, such as fraud involving a false bank advisor, it is the fraudster who calls the victim.
More recently, we are seeing text messages appearing where it is the user who calls the fraudster. It's very strong!
You receive a text message, the first thing we are going to give you is the name of a major merchant. We'll tell you right away

“For your current purchase here is the authentication code, if it is not you please call the anti-fraud service at the number attached”

And indeed, we end up with victims who tell us: “I am the one who called the fraudster”

When you want to call your bank's anti-fraud center, you look for the number on a directory, an account statement, your bank's website but you don't use the number that you find at the bottom of a text message. It's the best chance of running into a fraudster.

We tried it because we are a bit of a player on the team. We tried to call these numbers: you came across a professional voice service with music on hold. When you manage to have someone on the end of the phone, you come across a real banker, someone who is very credible and eloquent.

Marc de Beaucorps:

I saw that they had a hierarchy system, that is to say that if you do not believe in it they can refer you to someone above or to the secretary who asks you to wait.

Julian Lasalle:

These fraudulent call centers, whether receiving or sending calls, are professionals. They have customer management tools also called CRM.
