Interview Jonathan Spedale: network investigator and fraud analyst

On March 13, 2024, our seventh episode of our Fraud Hunters interview format was released. The CEO of Finovox, Marc de Beaucorps, had the opportunity to meet Jonathan Spedale, Network Investigator and Fraud Analyst. Blockchain, crypto, documentary fraud in e-commerce, Finovox test, meeting with hackers... Their conversation was rich in information.
We offer you an excerpt from this meeting.

Jonathan Spedale :
I have trouble with companies that say, “Fraudsters are always one step ahead.” Because for me, the big problem is that these companies don't monitor. For me, the day before is super important. As soon as you see a fraud taking place, you are in a position to be in time to be able to start preparing for it to happen.
Honestly, I know lots of people who say “we're late!” But on a lot of topics, I have the impression that we could not have been late. Then you do too many bandages. In other words, we do what we can to protect the sector that is affected or the fault is a shame.

Marc de Beaucorps : What do you recommend in general? What you just said, anticipate as much as possible and cut short as soon as we see a problem, but do you have other recommendations for people who work in anti-fraud?

Jonathan Spedale : It depends on the sector. But for example, in the e-commerce sector, there were people who had put a lot of money and resources into tools and analyses that were about payment. But today, with SP2 analysis, apart from false advisor fraud, there is not much carding fraud anymore. This is no longer possible, because 3D Secure protects transactions.
I think that we should therefore focus a little on logistics, first, but have analyses that focus more on online monitoring. To know already, what is the footprint of a company, online. For example, you go to fraud forums, you search for the name of your company with a Ctrl + F and you will see if your business is affected in any place.
