In the episode of our podcast Chasers de Fraud on December 13, 2023, we welcomed Jean-Paul Gagnon, former Police Officer and Consultant and Trainer in the fight against documentary fraud.
During this 40-minute exchange, our CEO, Marc de Beaucorps, questions the expert on the challenges of fraud in the insurance and mutual insurance sectors and beyond. In addition, Marc and Jean-Paul Gagnon return to the importance of the good training of his employees, in companies, and the importance of good detection of false documents in companies.
We offer you an excerpt from this exclusive interview.
Marc de Beaucorps : I imagine you would know how to do it, but for the general public, making a fake passport is still not for everyone, so making a false invoice...
Jean-Paul Gagnon : Even if I know how to do it, I couldn't do it.
Marc de Beaucorps : By ethics?
Jean-Paul Gagnon : So, first of all, ethics. In principle, already.
But then because, 15 or 20 years ago, when we talked about documentary fraud, we had to apply absolute secrecy, because we did not have very secure documents. Now, the manufacturers of standardized documents are developing very advanced technologies - some of which I find absolutely beautiful.
And so, a standardized document is ultimately a security cocktail that is so complex that, even if some manage to acquire even a few of these technologies, it would not have the complete cocktail.
At the end of the day, I know how to recognize security. In training, I say: “Give me a document from any country, I should find the repository.” Even though I don't have the repository, by analyzing the physical document, not the digital document, by looking at the constitution of the document, I can already estimate whether it is state-owned or industrial technology, or if it's a small-scale production.
