Emeric Desonix, lawyer and national anti-fraud and anti-money laundering specialist for insurance and mutual insurance companies, was the guest of our Fraud Hunters podcast on January 17.
At the microphone of Marc De Beaucorps, CEO of Finovox, Emeric Desonix tells the story of fraud, from the point of view of companies, but he also sweeps away the criminal risks incurred by the fraudster... Without skimping on anecdotes!
We are sharing an excerpt with you below.
Emeric Desonix: What some people will not want to hear is that in the fight against fraud, for me, there is a lot of desire to defend the community. Because fraud is an attack, not only against the insurer, even if it is a capitalistic company. But it is the community of insured persons that suffers from this, because it will have an impact on contributions at one time or another.
Marc de Beaucorps: It's the very principle of insurance. It is to pool the risk.
Emeric Desonix: Exactly. And you're giving the word. This is even more the case when you are a mutual insurance company. Because when you are a mutual insurance company, you are not there to make money. We are here to manage contributions, to pay real claims, not to pay fraudsters who will actually benefit from easy money when you get up in the morning to go to work.
For the moment, I also plead it like that, it's the fight of the good guys against the bad guys. I'm sorry to maybe be so childish in my speech, but that's really what I think. I am fighting a real fight against the bad guys. The real bad guys. We have the opportunistic fraudster who got his hands on the honeypot but... there are also real networks.
