On October 18, 2023, Finovox launched its Fraud Hunters podcast. For the very first episode of the “Le Canap’ anti-fraud” series, Marc de Beaucorps, CEO of Finovox, received Maxence Bizien, Managing Director of ALFA, Agency for the Fight against Insurance Fraud.
During this 35-minute exchange, Marc de Beaucorps and Maxence Bizien discuss the issues of insurance fraud in France. In his capacity as an expert, the Director General of ALFA also draws a portrait of the different types of fraudsters and, in response, he determines the main levers of action for companies.
How can we fight document fraud in the long term? What tools should be put in place to effectively combat insurance fraud in France at the dawn of 2024? Discover an excerpt from this interview in this article.
“Fraud has existed since insurance existed”
Maxence Bizien: The subject of fraud has been taboo for a very long time. Since the 2010s, the subject has been increasingly discussed. My bias was to say that it is no longer a taboo, that we had to talk about it openly. Fraud exists, it’s part and parcel of insurance. Fraud has existed since insurance existed.
Today, I wouldn't say that the subject is still taboo. However, do all companies give themselves the means to really address the subject? Maybe not. The subject is no longer taboo, but do these companies really want to tackle it?
You see fraud if you look for it... Unless the fraudster is really bad. This means that there is voluntary action on the part of companies. But as soon as we look for it, we will also find problems… And we will have to manage these problems!
It's not a simple business to fight fraud. Obviously, we will manage litigation, conflict, discontent. It's always easier to say “yes” than to say “no”.
Marc de Beaucorps: It's easier to refund than to block fraud, right?
Maxence Bizien: So.
